The genesis of this book came from a photo series that I had created in 2018, called “The Racist Dictionary of America”, where I photographed everyday objects that were also used as racial slurs against minorities in America.

At the core, the photo book covers the racism minorities suffered from within their communities, with slurs like Apple, Oreo or Banana. With the new work being created, the photo book has expanded to cover other racism topics like blatant racism against minorities, shown with quotes from interviews, video stills of one of the victims and re-enactment photos.

Furthermore, the book covers racism from one culture to another through appropriation and misrepresentation. The book also highlights how people of color are commonly being “mislabelled.” The front and back covers echo back to the Salad Bowl and Melting Pot immigration concepts in the 1990s America.
